Moore's Law

Moore’s law is the concept of how technology is progressing astronomically is such short periods of time. For example, to have an MP3 player smaller than a credit card with multiple gigabytes of memory ten years ago was absolutely ridiculous, not even computers could be though of with that kind of memory. Now, we have iPods with thousands of applications, Internet, video, youtube, 180 gigabytes and all sorts of stuff.

The average teenager now days have lived to see the inventions of the iPod, DVD, plasma screen TV. digital cameras and video cameras. If you tried to sale someone a car, how likely would it be to sale them a 1992 Cadillac escalade (the year I was born) apposed to a 2010 Cadillac escalade with 400 horse power, heated steering wheels and seats, onstar, traction control, satellite radio, back up camera, parking assist and all these other crazy gizmos and gadgets all while getting 20 mile to the gallon on the freeway? Whoever had the money to get a 2010 escalade I can almost guarantee that they would buy it over a 1992 escalade, unless they were crazy.

It doesn’t even come close to stopping with the auto industry. In the military, they have designed new BDU’s (battle dress uniforms). Apposed to the traditional looking BDU’s with the jungle camo they have designed a digital camo that cannot be detected by enemy military cameras!

The first computer ever made was released in 1981 and had 16 kiB-256 kiB of memory. KiB is the smallest form of memory I could find. Now we have computers with hundreds of gigabyte and even terabytes! To put this into scale…1 gigabyte is equal to about 8 trillion bits which is even bigger than a kibibyte (kiB). Ipods are even starting to catch up with our modern day computers! I am typing this report on an aluminum cased Macbook that is only a year old. It is already outdated. This computer has 160 gigabyte of memory while iPods have 180! I am downloading a new form of iTunes as I am writing this as well.

This will affect not only me or you but the entire world! Imagine if they take hybrid cars to a whole new level such that they are running off of some other fuel than gasoline. The production of gasoline will then stop and everyone left with a car that runs on gasoline will either have to convert their car to run off of that fuel or they will have to buy a brand new car. With the military having this new camo that can’t be detected my enemy cameras then that could prevent attacks on military personnel and potentially save very many lives.

In accordance to moores law, there is absolutely no way that this could affect nobody. It’s literally impossible. With the way that technology is progressing, the rest of the world has no choice but to progress with it. Some say that it could eventually lead to our own destruction and some say that nothing could be better. I don’t know where this kind of progression will take us; all I know is that when we take one step, the system takes two.
