The website I am going to do my critique on is going to be http://www.springfield-armory.com/. The two main reasons I am critiquing this website is because one, I am a gun nut, and two, I have spent a lot of time on this website and I like how it is set up, the effects they use and how organized all of it is. But not to worry, I will go in depth with all of this jazz.
This website is obviously an armory website. The first thing I would like to talk about is the home page. The home page set up is dark and then it has their newest award winning product in the center of the page and in a lighter contrast bringing your attention to that and making you want to go further into the website. Another thing I like about the home page as well as the rest of the site is that it is very organized. There is no secret or hidden anything, everything is where it can easily be found so that way you aren’t driving yourself nuts trying to find what you need to find.
Another thing I like about this website is that they have photos and information about every product they sale. What is so frustrating to me is when I am looking for information, photos ect, and I cant find them. So I really appreciate when a website can make things easy and normal. Along with being organized and having information at hand, it doesn’t stop with their main products. They also have at the top right hand corner, customer service, extras, shooting tips, links and an about us link. I like that these tabs are here cause again, they are easy to find, and they give you more information about the company, contact information with mail, e-mail, phone and fax numbers, and also offer assistance with things you want to gain knowledge on (shooting tips). I really like how they put the “links” tab at the top. This, to me, shows that instead of the company being focused on hogging all the business, they are more concerned about the kind of business they are in.
Another thing I like about this website is that it has a store where you can buy about anything you need (for their product of coarse). If you need any parts, accessories, gear or even clothes you can purchase that stuff right off of their website.
One thing that I do not like about this website is that they do not go into near as much detail on their brand new product as they do on their older products. It seems like they really promote it on their home page but that’s about all they do. All they other guns you can go to each individually and read about them but with the new one all you can do is look at a 3D model which is an awesome idea, don’t get me wrong, but I think they should go into a little more detail. They should also add more pictures and possibly even some videos of them operating the gun and maybe even get some testimonials about the gun. Anyway for the most part, I really like this website, I think they did a great job constructing it and it’s a website that I would really study for ideas if I were going to create my own website.
